Valentina Moroni, Associate, Financial Markets spills the secrets of her career journey at the bank so far


Tell us about your career journey so far?

After graduating in Economics at Bocconi University, I gained several different experiences in the financial sector. I started with consulting for financial institutions, moving to the European Central Bank and afterwards to Cash Management in an investment bank. Aware of my strong interest to cover a front office position in the financial markets, I decided after graduation to gain experience in different companies and across departments to understand the best fit for me. My strong interest in emerging markets, value of cultural diversity, passion for learning and search for variety in my role brought me to Standard Chartered.

What’s the best career advice you’ve ever been given?

Never stop being interested to learn something new.

If you didn’t do the job you do now, what would be your other career choice?

Lawyer. Triggered by attention to details and human relationships as well as technicality combined with making an impact.

What advice/hints and tips, would you give to someone looking to work at Standard Chartered?

Technical knowledge, attention to detail, due diligence, share expertise and experience, be driven by passion of growing, learning and improving.

How do you like to spend your free time?

I love doing sport, travelling, meeting my friends and family, and learning new languages.

Is there anything people don’t know about you?

People think I'm a good cook because I am Italian, but I am not.

Are there any skills you’re trying to learn?

Playing tennis and learning German.
