Standard Chartered in Morocco
Standard Chartered opened its Morocco representative office in May 2025, following approval from Bank Al-Maghrib and the award of Casablanca Finance City status by the Casablanca Finance City Authority.
The representative office marks the continued expansion of our presence in the Middle East and North Africa region and reinforces our commitment to connecting clients to high-growth markets across continents while supporting regional economic development.
Through our global network, sector expertise and financing capabilities, Standard Chartered is uniquely positioned to support Morocco’s growth agenda and facilitate cross-border trade and investment flows.
Over the past decade, we have collaborated closely with the Moroccan banking sector, building strong relationships with major financial institutions. The representative office will serve as a platform to deepen those partnerships and deliver tailored banking solutions to multinational and regional clients across industries.

Country Head & Head of Coverage, Morocco
Cynthia El Asmar
Cynthia El Asmar is Country Head & Head of Coverage, Morocco. Prior to this role, she was CEO Non-present Countries (NPC). She has also previously held the role of Chief Executive Officer of Standard Chartered, Lebanon Representative Office.
Cynthia has also held senior positions at American Express, Beirut, Lebanon. She began in customer support, was promoted to Relationship Manager and Director before being nominated CEO. She also held several managerial positions in commercial and financial institutions banking in local banks at the start of her career.
With more than 30 years’ experience in the banking sector, Cynthia has vast experience in strategy development, business growth and relationship management.
