Your training

As an International Graduate in the Financial Markets, you will be focused in your chosen business stream, while training and business rotations into connected streams will give real context to your role. You will gain hands-on experience across four rotations, where you are an integral part of a team to help deliver solutions for our customers. Here are some projects you could be involved in:

  • Analyse and create pitchbooks, confirming client deals and coordinating client events as part of our Sales teams
  • Price, test, develop and roll-out new products as part of our Structuring teams
  • Provide insights on balance sheet movements, report changes in liquidity profiles and track Trading desk funding profiles as part of our ALM teams
  • Support senior desk members executing and inputting hedging trades and provide pricing to sales desks as part of our Trading Teams
  • Exposure to FM senior management and other trading desk across your tenor through interactive sessions enabling you to start developing a holistic overview of the Financial Markets business

What you’ll do over 18 months

International induction – This comprises of classroom sessions, case studies, and tailored technical training split by business stream.

12 Months training rotation – You will spend five months in your focus area and go on to broaden your experience with further two months rotations in Client Coverage, Corporate Finance*, Transaction Banking and Risk.

6 Months Business rotation – Your last rotation will be six months in your focus area in Financial Markets. It’s your chance to find the team you fit into best, and begin your Standard Chartered career.

Overview

Global Banking supports clients financial needs across more than 60 markets, providing solutions to over 5,3000 clients in some of the world’s fastest-growing economies and most active trade corridors. Our clients include large corporations, governments, banks and investors headquartered, operating or investing in Asia, Africa and the Middle East. Our strong and deep local presence across these markets enables us to facilitate trade, capital and investment flows in and for our footprint, including across China’s Belt and Road initiative.

Our Global Banking team provides client coverage through global Industries group, financial & strategic investors group, banks and broker dealers, global subsidiaries, investors and insurance, commercial real estate focused Relationship Managers.

We collaborate increasingly with other segments: introducing Commercial Banking services to our clients’ ecosystems – their networks of buyers, suppliers, customers and service providers.

Standard Chartered Graduate Program

Your training

The programme provides a comprehensive grounding in corporate and commercial banking, and will see you working directly with a diverse range of business and corporate customers alongside our Corporate/Financial Institutions Bankers. You can explore how your skills can adapt to different areas of our business while developing new skills to help kick-start your career in the Global Banking. Here are some projects you could be involved in:

  • Generate creative ideas on customer acquisition and products/ services
  • Work directly with new clients to learn, analyse and identify opportunities to advance their business, developing a deep understanding of our customers’ needs, and expertise in the products we offer
  • Map, mine and implement cross sell opportunities to expand existing client relationships
  • Partner with Relationship Managers to structure client transactions, acquiring insight into product development, deal execution and digital banking
  • Prepare customer credit proposals

Your training

As a Corporate Finance International Graduate, you will participate in project teams with Corporate Finance Specialists who provide innovative, sound financial solutions to demanding clients in some of our dynamic markets. You will be provided with ongoing support and training that will help you to develop your analytical, problem solving and soft skills required to undertake your role. Here are some projects you could be involved in:

  • Business development activities including identification and targeting of potential opportunities
  • Financial modelling and quantitative analysis of a transaction
  • Preparation of client presentations, pitch documents and industry specific research
  • Work with teams across the bank to manage credit approval processes, onboard clients and take responsibility for account planning

Your career progression

At the end of your 18-month programme, you’ll join as an Analyst in Corporate Finance.

Your training

Our programme gives you exposure to smaller businesses and multinationals alike, offering ideas for cash flow improvement and capital optimisation. We will build your skills and knowledge through rotations, to add value and contribute to meeting the needs of our clients. The projects you work on will require your analytical skills, an ability to work independently and an instinct for trends and innovations. You will learn from the best, evolve professionally as well as personally, and build a firm foundation upon which to specialise later. Here are some experiences you could look forward to:

We help customers across our footprint with the management of their day-to-day finances and savings. You will learn about our product offerings, how we position them in the market and the processes and strategies behind them.  Your experiences will cover different segments, products and channels, through which we connect with our customers. What you’ll do over 18 months

12 Months training rotations – You will spend twelve months in your core business area, where you’ll broaden your experience by rotating through Risk, Product, Distribution/Front Line and Digital.

6 Months Business rotation – Your last rotation will add to your knowledge of the product and client transaction lifecycle. It will also give you exposure to areas such as Funds, Wealth Propositions and Solutions, and Investment Strategy. Your training

Explore the different teams. Get to learn and build your knowledge of what really drives our Retail business.

As a Retail Banking International Graduate, you will enjoy the broadest possible exposure to our key businesses. This could mean working within our digital team to determine the future client experience or within our customer experience area looking at what drives client satisfaction. You could work within our product and services teams to understand and develop new client propositions or even within our risk and controls management areas.

You will be fully supported to fulfill your potential, follow your passions with our specialist teams where you can:

  • Manage and contribute to a revenue generating business
  • Lead client campaign and profitability analysis
  • Manage key strategic projects that impact different channels, segments and regions
  • Contribute to the design and development of global client acquisition programmes

Your training

RCFCC International Graduate programme aims to develop skilled Risk and/or Compliance Analysts. Risk and Compliance is an emerging and ever expanding area across Banking and the wider financial services industry. A role in R&C means that you will develop a unique skillset by working alongside subject matter business experts across multiple job rotations. This will allow you to develop highly sought after specialist business knowledge and technical skills in a best in class  RCFCC function. The  RCFCC graduate stream is directed towards a specialisation in Risk or Compliance business in the Bank. Here are some projects you may be involved in:

  • Risk & Controls identification and management
  • Improving efficiency, accuracy and maintainability of information (e.g. using Excel / advanced Excel)
  • Management of on-site regulatory engagements, guidelines and best practices
  • Preparation of high quality submissions/reports as requested by Regulators, Internal Audit and the Group Senior Management.
  • Regularly review our compliance policies and processes for anti-bribery and corruption, whistle blowing and more
  • Be a trusted advisor to our business units and act in the best interests of our clients and customers.

We have developed an exciting 18-month programme designed to fast track you to an established career in TDR in the Bank. This programme will build your technical and business knowledge through rotations in Cyber Operations, Data Management & Privacy, Training & Awareness and COO Enablement & Change. Additionally, you will be client facing businesses and the wider Technology functions, developing a deep understanding of how IT Services delivered to our customers. You will follow a tailored training and development plan and will be supported and encouraged along the way through buddy and mentoring schemes, and have the opportunity to network with our senior management team.

Your career progression

At the end of your 18-month programme, you’ll join a role in Trust, Data & Resilience team and this could be in any one of the following areas:

  • Cyber Operations
  • Data Management & Privacy
  • Training & Awareness
  • COO Enablement & Change

What you’ll do over 18 months

International induction – This comprises of classroom sessions, case studies, and tailored technical training split by business stream.

12 months training rotations – Your first rotation will be in one of the many teams within Cyber Operations, Data Management & Privacy, Training & Awareness or COO Enablement & Change.  This will then be followed by an additional 2-3 rotations to allow you to broaden your experience within Trust, Data & Resilience function.  This is your chance to find the team you best fit into for you to begin your career at Standard Chartered Bank.

6 months final rotation – Your last rotation will be 6 months in your selected team within Trust, Data & Resilience where your career continues.

SC ventures at the Bank aims to enable and accelerate innovation by providing a safe space for different parts of the Bank, and external partners, to collaborate, explore and test solutions to solve real business problems of today, as well as the challenges of tomorrow.

Your training

Your training will be across three main pillars of SC Ventures:

Enabling Innovation - Our eXellerator labs facilitate innovation and culture change across the Bank. It is a platform which supports the Bank’s intrapreneurs and clients along their innovation journey. You may be involved in the following:

  • Complete the Human Centered Design Practitioner course, and provide support in running innovation initiatives
  • Learn about project and change management by assisting in the programme management of the Intrapreneurs Programme
  • Support communications (e.g. campaigns) and marketing (e.g. events) across this pillar, including Intrapreneurs Programme and the FinTech Bridge

Investment Fund - We invest in Fintech companies that enable forward-thinking capabilities and manages Standard Chartered Bank’s minority stakes in its fintech partners. You may be involved in the following:

  • Required to work on fund pitch presentation and fund financial model
  • In the event of a live deal, Graduates will be engaged in the preparation of financial forecasts, investment returns calculations and investment memorandum

Business Ventures - We sponsor and oversee the formation of new business ventures, focusing on disruptive business models to create optionality. We test by incubating, setting up and spinning off businesses that are independent and distinct from the bank. You may be involved in the following:

  • Graduates will be involved in the overall business management for the portfolio of ventures, including getting updates from relevant venture leads, tracking the pipeline and help in the overall governance across the venture governance groups
  • Graduates will also be exposed to ventures and facilitate in incubating ventures form Ideation to Build (depending on stage of venture)
  • Staying abreast of Fintech developments as well as leveraging and connecting relevant fintech’s to the ventures. IG may also be exposed to tech side of Venture building (based on expertise)

What you’ll do over 18 months
