Tips on Using Your ATM Card

As ATM skimming fraud is an ongoing concern from security perspective, we wish to remind cardholders to be alert at all times in using Automated Teller Machines (ATMs).

Please take precautionary measures to protect your Personal Identity Number (PIN) and ATM cards appropriately at all times, including:

  • covering the keypad while entering the PIN; and
  • watching out for any irregularity when using the ATMs, in particular whether the keypad cover has been removed and any suspicious device has been installed at the card insertion slot. Please report to the bank promptly if irregularity is found

Each ATM of our Bank should have a key pad cover – if you find the cover is damaged or removed, please stop the transaction and inform our bank staff immediately

  • You must keep your ATM Card details, including but not limited to the ATM Card number, expiry date, and cardholder name safe. You should not let anyone else use your ATM Card. You should keep your ATM Card and respective details secure (including keeping it in a safe place)
  • Do not disclose your PIN to any other person
  • Do not write your PIN on your card or anything you usually keep with or near it
  • Do not use an obvious number such as your HKID number, telephone number, date of birth or other easily accessible personal information as your PIN
  • Regularly change your PIN at our ATM
  • If your card/authentication factors (e.g., PIN, mobile device used for transaction authentication process) are lost or stolen, please report it immediately using the process below:
    1.  Log in to SC Mobile and select “Services” > “Deposits & Debit Cards” > “Cancel or Replace Card”*, or
    2.  Log in to Online Banking and select “Help and Services” > “Service Request” >”Card Management” > “Cancel or Replace Debit/ATM Card”, or
    3.  Call our hotline (+852) 2886 8888 immediately.

Enjoy Free Overseas ATM Cash Withdrawals

 

Overseas ATM Cash Withdrawal at JETCO, MasterCard/Cirrus, UnionPay and Visa/PLUS ATM networks from Savings or Current Accounts Handling Fee is waived for Priority Private, Priority Banking & Premium Banking clients. This privilege is not applicable for the 0.5% cross-border transaction fee imposed by UnionPay.

 

Note: This privilege is applicable to all Standard Chartered ATM cards. The overseas cash withdrawals may also be subject to fees and charges imposed by the overseas local bank which provides the ATM service. Please pay attention before making cash withdrawal.

How to activate the Overseas ATM withdrawal Function

Before you travel, remember to activate your Overseas ATM withdrawal Function via one of the following channels:

1.  The default daily limit per ATM card for Overall ATM and Purchase transaction:

ATM transactions

  • Transfer to Account Linked to the Card: Unlimited
  • ATM Cash Withdrawal/ Account transfer/ Jet Payment:
    • Priority Banking/ Premium Banking Card:HKD 30,000
    • Standard Chartered ATM Card: HKD 20,000
    • Teens ATM Card: HKD 2,000^

Purchase Transaction (Including Overseas In-Store Purchase and Online Purchase Transaction)#

  • Priority Banking/ Premium Banking Card/ Standard Chartered ATM Card: HKD 50,000
  • Teens ATM Card: HKD 2,000^

^The transaction daily limit of Teens ATM Card is also subject to the maximum daily limit applicable to the holder of account that is linked to the Teens ATM Card.

#This limit applies to transactions going through EPS or UnionPay Point-Of-Sale terminals. If the ATM Card is used to perform any PPS transactions or tax/ eIPO payment via ATM, this limit will be automatically increased to HKD100,000.

2.  The minimum cash withdrawal amount is HKD 100 when using Standard Chartered ATMs, and HKD 500 for other JETCO ATMs

3.  When you shop with your UnionPay ATM card, Personal Identification Number (PIN) is required.

  • In relation to all UnionPay ATM cards issued by Standard Chartered Bank (Hong Kong) Limited, the “Service Charges – An easy guide to banking fees” and “ATM Card User Manual” shall be revised and supplemented with effect from 11 April 2022. The changes are for the new 0.5% cross-border transaction fee imposed by UnionPay for overseas ATM cash withdrawal. Please click here for details of the changes.
  • I acknowledge that: (i) the Client Terms are applicable to the accounts/services referred to in this form; (ii) the Client Terms and the applicable documents referred to in Part A of the Client Terms (“banking agreement”) have been made available to me, and (iii) I have read and understood the banking agreement and I agree to be bound by them.
  • I acknowledge receipt of and have read and agreed with the Notice to Customers and Other Individuals relating to the Personal Data (Privacy) Ordinance and the Code of Practice on Consumer Credit Data (“Notice”). I further agree that all information provided by me in this application form and such personal data relating to an individual collected by the Bank from time to time may be used and disclosed for such purposes and to such persons (whether the recipient is located in Hong Kong or another country/region, or in a country/region that does not offer the same level of data protection as Hong Kong) in accordance with the Bank’s policies on use and disclosure of personal data as set out in the Notice, which may be subject to changes from time to time.
  • I understand and agree that a Teens ATM Card or Deposit Card (if applied for) will be issued to me with both my name and, in case My Dream Account in relation to my child is linked, my child’s name will be embossed on it, and I am responsible for all the uses of the Teens ATM Card and Deposit Card issued by the Bank at my request and all the withdrawals and transactions made from the use of the Teens ATM Card. I confirm the Terms and Conditions for Teens ATM Card and Deposit Card have been made available to me, and I have read, understood and agree to and to be bound by them.
  • I confirm that the information in this application is correct, complete and not misleading. I also authorize the Bank to verify from any source the Bank may choose.
  • If there is any inconsistency between the English version and the Chinese version of this application form, the English version prevails.

According to UnionPay, from 1 April 2016, LINK ATM network in United Kingdom will not support withdrawal from UnionPay cards. Before your trip, please visit UnionPay’s website at www.unionpayintl.com and select “ATM Locator” for the latest information about the ATM networks which support UnionPay card at your destination.
