Discontinuation of PayNow Nickname Feature from 6 June 2026

The Association of Banks in Singapore recently announced that the PayNow nickname feature for retail customers will be discontinued with effect from 6 June 2026 to help combat impersonation scams.

With this change, the name of the Payee linked to the registered retail bank account – with only selected letters displayed – will appear to the Payer to help safeguard customer privacy.

If you are currently using the PayNow nickname feature, there is no action needed on your part. All other aspects of receiving and transferring money via PayNow remain unchanged.

Without the nickname feature, scammers will not be able to adopt the names of legitimate companies or individuals as their PayNow nicknames to dupe victims into transferring money to their bank accounts.
