At Standard Chartered, we’re committed to building a sustainable business that contributes to the local economy and community we operate in. This is what we mean when we say we’re Here for good. Read more about our approach to sustainability here.

We’re the first bank to be accorded enhanced “Significantly Rooted Foreign Bank” privileges by the Monetary Authority of Singapore. Our community strategy focuses on supporting charities and causes that are locally relevant and impactful. In line with our commitment to sustainable economic and social development, we will continue to step up our community efforts along with deepening our presence in Singapore.

Community Investment

Futuremakers by Standard Chartered is our global community initiative started in 2019 to tackle inequality and promote economic inclusion. We aim to imbue resilience in our future generations through enhancing their education, employability and entrepreneurial skills, thereby enabling them to learn, earn and grow. Read more about Futuremakers here.

Silver Lining is our uniquely Singapore community initiative focused on addressing the issues of a rapidly ageing population. Over the years, the programme’s priorities evolve to meet the changing needs of the Singapore community. Our efforts in earlier years focused on seniors’ healthcare needs. With advancement in medical technology and better ability to manage their heath, more seniors are further seeking ways to create new meaning in their lives especially post-retirement.

Some of our recent notable support include:

  • 2023: Launch of the “Sneak Peek” programme with SG Her Empowerment (SHE) to provide opportunities for 250 young women from lesser privileged backgrounds to visit different companies across various industries and get exposure to different career choices.
  • 2023: Launch of the Women in Entrepreneurship Incubator” with Singapore Management University’s Lien Centre for Social Innovation, to support female entrepreneurship focused on achieving social impact.
  • 2022: Launch of the “Family Empowerment Programme” with Temasek Trust and AWWA. This is an income stability programme based on a Pay-for-Success model to provide fixed cash transfers to 75 low-income households over a period of 18 months.
  • 2022: Launch of Standard Chartered Foundation’s partnership with Generation on #SheEmployed to provide 150 young women in Singapore with employability skills trainings.
  • 2021: S$1 million donation to the Infocomm Media Development Authority (IMDA)’s Digital for Life Fund to build a digitally inclusive society. Our fund has been matched equally by the Singapore Government for a total S$2 million.
  • 2019: Partner “Project Through-Train” with Samsui Supplies and SG Enable to provide training and job placement for youths with disabilities.
  • 2019: Launch of a 3-year partnership with RSVP Singapore to promote senior volunteerism.
  • 2017: Donation to the “Friend-A-Senior” programme by the South East Community Development Council to create a seniors’ befrienders network in the neighbourhood.
Employee Volunteering

Every employee has three days of paid volunteering leave annually. We encourage our colleagues to volunteer their time and skills to support a variety of causes, including children and youth, environmental conservation, and the elderly. We work closely with our community partners, social service agencies, corporates, and government agencies to support a range of volunteer opportunities.

In 2023, over 4,800 of our Singapore-based employees volunteered at least once to support various causes that they are passionate about in the community, and we look to further activate our employee volunteerism. Click on the tiles to find out more.

Awards and Achievements

We are honoured and humbled to be recognised for our corporate giving efforts, which serve as a strong testament of our dedication to be Here for good.
