From camping to exploring nature, here are five family-friendly activities to explore in Singapore

5 family-friendly activities in Singapore that won't break the bank Family fun: 5 fun, inexpensive things to do in Singapore

When it comes to family time, it’s the experience and not the amount of money you spend that matters. Here are five fun, pocket-friendly activities the whole family may enjoy.

Get fit together with a fun run

Get the entire family started on a healthy lifestyle. To make it fun and keep everyone focused on a concrete goal, sign up for one of the many fun runs that Singapore hosts throughout the year. You can start with Run Majulah on August 8, which offers a Family run route of 3.8km. Also check out one of the more popular races around, the annual Standard Chartered Marathon on December 8 and 9, which has a Kids Dash for children 12 and under and a 5km category that is open to participants 10 years and up.

No matter which race and route you choose, do train for it to build up endurance – which means even more time spent with your family!

      Camp under the stars

For family fun under the stars, plan a camping experience at  East Coast or West Coast Parks. Pick the camp site together and get the kids to help pitch a tent (sporting goods store Decathlon offers a range of affordable options). With the wide variety of activities available, from sandcastle building to kite flying, cycling and rollerblading, parents may even notice their kids forgetting to glance at their electronic devices while they enjoy being outdoors.

      Discover Singapore’s aviation history

A gem of a find, Air Force Museum is a well-curated space that combines interactive media and original artefacts to showcase Singapore’s illustrious aviation history. Don’t miss the Outdoor Gallery, which houses a collection of fighter jets, missiles and anti-aircraft systems that the Republic of Singapore Air Force has used throughout its history. Admission to the museum is free.

Learn about the natural world in a natural setting

Make a trip to Singapore’s farms in the Kranji Countryside for an interactive, educational food experience beyond the supermarket. Bollywood Veggies offers farm tours and other activities and even has a bistro where you can enjoy a farm-to-table feast.

At Hay Dairies, Singapore’s only goat farm, kids and parents alike can enjoy the morning goat-milking session and feeding the goats. Or visit Farmart Centre, which has an animal corner with farm critters such as bull frogs, tortoises, rabbits and birds; it also offers farm tours that are suitable for young children.

Explore the unique ecosystem of a nature reserve

The rustic Kranji Marshes, home to over 250 species of birds, butterflies and dragonflies, showcase the biodiversity of Singapore’s freshwater marshland. Besides offering visitors a wide swathe of nature to luxuriate in, it also has interesting structures to explore, such as the 10.65m-tall Raptor Tower and its panoramic view of the surroundings, and Kingfisher Burrow arch that is a good location for photographs. Don’t forget to pack a picnic to complete your day at the nature reserve.

While these activities are reasonably priced, a family day out can still stretch your budget. Make your dollar go further with promotions such as Standard Chartered Bank’s Unlimited Cashback Credit Card, which offers 1.5% cashback1 on all eligible spending. Unlike other credit cards, there is no minimum spend required to earn the cashback and there is no cap on the cashback you can earn, so you can now do even more with your family.
