FAQs

  • Unified Payments Interface (UPI) is an instant payment system which allows you to instantly pay / receive / collect money using Virtual Payment Address (VPA) registered on your mobile phone.
This system is developed by the National Payments Corporation of India (NPCI), an RBI regulated entity. UPI is built over the Immediate Payments System (IMPS) infrastructure.

  • UPI enables money transfer using multiple bank accounts under a single App. Merchant payments are simplified and safer as UPI has two factor authentication through a single click.

  • With UPI, you enjoy higher daily transaction limits and unlike wallet, there is no need to load money. You can use funds directly from your accounts.

  • All transactions on UPI are authenticated by 2 factor authentication. Debit in your account will only be initiated through your VPA, on your device and it requires UPI-PIN to authenticate the transaction.

  • Virtual Payment Address (VPA) is a unique ID which helps identify a person’s bank account. The VPA can be in the format “yourname@scb”. All fund transfers from and to your account can be done using VPA (no need for bank account number/ IFSC code, etc.).

  • The UPI platform (built by NPCI – an RBI regulated entity) retrieves the accounts details linked with your mobile number. The details are masked and the exchange of information is done over secure banking networks.

  • Please ensure that the same mobile number is linked to all your bank accounts.UPI platform will retrieve all accounts linked to the mobile number.

  • This facility is currently not available for Non Resident accounts

  • Yes, multiple bank accounts can be linked to the same VPA.

  • There can only be one account (SCB account), which can be linked in SC Mobile App. For other Apps, below is the process:
Go to “”Manage Payment Address”” screen on the app.
Click on the VPA that you would like to change the default account for
Choose one of the linked accounts and set it as default.
You can change the default account anytime in future.

  • You can generate your new UPI-PIN using your debit card details (last six digits of debit card number and expiry date).

  • The transaction will be declined and an error message will be displayed as “UPI-PIN Validation Failed”.

  • The different channels for transferring funds using UPI are:

    a) Pay / collect using VPA
    b) Pay / Collect using QR code
    c) Pay using Account Number + IFSC
    d) Pay using Mobile Number + MMID

  • The payer/payee name, as per the bank records, is automatically populated on the screen whenever you add the VPA to collect/send money.

  • – Currently the upper limit per UPI transaction, as prescribed by NPCI for fund transfers is 100,000.
    – Transaction limit for specific merchant transactions (as advised by NPCI) is 500,000.
    – The maximum number of debit transaction allowed (only for fund transfer) is 10 per bank account within 24 hours.
** This is subject to NPCI guidelines for UPI and may change from time to time.

  • When you shop-online, you can pay through UPI when you see UPI as a payment option. On clicking that, you will need to enter your VPA/ or scan the QR code as shared by online merchant. Once entered/scanned, you will receive a collect request on your SC Mobile App. Enter the OTP to authorise and complete your payment. As easy as this!

  • All payments are instant and 24/7, regardless of your bank’s working hours!

  • Once you complete a UPI transaction, you should check the status on the SC Mobile App. In case you have not received confirmation SMS within an hour please contact customer support at your bank.

  • The timeline to approve a collect request needs to be defined by the requester. The default time is 30 min.

  • Go to Transaction History -> All, to view all your past and pending transactions. You can filter by transaction type and date range. All the pending transactions can be viewed on “In Progress” tab.

  • Yes, a customer needs to register on SC Mobile App before remitting funds using UPI.

  • SC Mobile App provides an option to register beneficiary details (i.e.; VPA) to avoid inputting the details again for recurring transactions. However, this is not mandatory and you can initiate fund transfer directly without registering the beneficiary.

  • As the fund transfer is done through VPA in SC Mobile App, the beneficiary needs to be registered with UPI.

  • UPI transaction can fail due to multiple reasons – most likely due to connectivity issues to the banking system, incorrect Payment Address entered or wrong UPI-PIN entry. If your transaction fails, please try again. If it doesn’t work, please contact customer support. Our email: customer.care@sc.com

  • UPI provides for real time reversals for declines and amount would be transferred back to the payer account immediately. Sometimes this may take longer. If you do not receive the refund within 1 hour, please contact customer support. Our email: customer.care@sc.com
