Standard Chartered Dubai Marathon

The Standard Chartered Dubai Marathon (SCDM) has become the Bank’s signature regional sponsorship and remains the single biggest event in terms of participant numbers in the region. Starting with 600 runners in 1990, the race has expanded to be acclaimed as the best one in Asia with over 25,000 runners, by the International Association of Athletics Federation. The SCDM has been awarded the Gold Label from the IAAF twice in a row (in 2012 and 2013). In 2016 we were delighted and honoured to see the Standard Chartered Dubai Marathon was awarded the five-star rating by the Dubai Sports Council – one of just four sporting events in the UAE to achieve this rating. This was a testimony to our continuous efforts in promoting healthy living among our staff and the community at large in the UAE.

On a global scale, Standard Chartered sponsors nine marathons in some of the most exciting cities across our footprint in Asia, Africa and the Middle East. These events – in particular in Dubai – attract thousands of ordinary people to see the good of long distance running as they chase personal best times and course records, but just as important to us are our ‘everyday runners’ who look to ‘run for a reason’.

Driving Empowerment for Youth in the UAE

UAE's vision of 2021 is to build a diversified and knowledge based economy, powered by skilled Emiratis and strengthened world-class talent to ensure long-term prosperity. Standard Chartered fully supports this vision and will provide Emirati youth with the right exposure to the professional world; deliver practical skills and business knowledge in order to raise their awareness and improve job readiness. Injaz and Standard Chartered’s partnership is built on a common goal and commitment to deliver work readiness and other development programmes for youth in the UAE with particular focus on Emiratis. Through this three year partnership, we collectively aim to reach out to and positively impact 1000 students every year through various mentorship programmes covering Work Readiness, Entrepreneurship, Financial literacy. Work readiness will be our primary focus and this covers exciting modules like Steer your Career and Career success. These are highly personalised trainings that will build the knowledge, skills, attitudes that the youth today needs to be productive at work. Entrepreneurship will cover Innovation camps and Entrepreneurship masterclass. These are immersive workshops featuring real life experiences where students can work on a business case, take measured risks, learn from their outcomes. We are committed to continue making a difference in the communities we operating and show how we are being Here for good.
