Hoa: Why I returned to Standard Chartered

Joining Standard Chartered, Vietnam in February 2019 as a Trade Sales Manager under Transaction Banking; then 6 months later, under global structure, I and other colleagues in the Transaction Banking Sales Team were merged to Corporate & Institutional Banking under a new structure that we functionally performed as corporate sales. At that time, I used to have a feeling of worry and uncertainty since it had only been several months and for me to adapt to a new organisation’s culture and its changes.

I ended up leaving the Bank after a year, however after 3 years, on a pleasant evening, I happened to know that Standard Chartered was looking for a Senior Relationship Manager to head up Global Subsidiaries clients in Commercial Corporate & Institutional Banking. At first when receiving that news, I did not think much about it or had any interest, since I was stable with the position of Trade Sales Manager elsewhere. However everything is predestined, I think since after that I kept hearing about it and I wondered why I didn’t try a new role to re-challenge myself. I decided to apply for the opportunity and surprisingly, the most motivated reason is because I really wanted to step out of my comfort zone to challenge myself from a routine to a more active life.

7 months since re-joining the Bank it has passed so fast. I am in the midst of a new role and most of the time, I begin my working day with a ready attitude and feeling fully energic. I still remember some words Michele (our CEO) said to me when I came to say hello to her on the first week of my on boarding: “Please bring in new things, new initiatives, new ideas to the bank that will be really helpful for our changing and development” I do believe that message is linked to the bank’s core value that every staff is encouraged to shine: do the right thing, never settle and better together.

I believe everything happens for a reason, I am no longer afraid of changes and fully embrace them as they come
