Navigating Success at Standard Chartered – Tricia’s Story

What was it like entering the corporate world for the first time?

I was excited to enter the corporate world for the first time as I finally could put what I have learned at university into use and get to learn from experienced like-minded people in the field.

Why did you choose to begin your career Standard Chartered?

These values aligned perfectly with my own beliefs and aspirations. As a fresh graduate stepping into the corporate world, I knew I needed a supportive environment that would encourage me to thrive. Standard Chartered provided me with an environment where I felt empowered to take risks, ask questions, and continuously learn from the wealth of knowledge around me.

Standard Chartered's emphasis on continuous learning and development was also a major draw for me. As someone interested in software development and programming, I wanted to be part of an organisation that valued technical expertise and encouraged innovation. What is your favourite thing about your job in the Technology team?

My favourite thing about my job is knowing that what I am working on will contribute to and impact the Bank positively. In addition, seeing how my work enhances the functionality of the existing platforms and applications has brought me immense satisfaction and fulfilment.

What advice would you give to someone looking to work at Standard Chartered?

I would say be receptive and see tasks assigned as an opportunity to learn and grow as an individual. It might seem difficult, but give it a go, ask for help where you need it and grow from there.

How should someone prepare for an interview with Standard Chartered?

Get to know Standard Chartered inside and out. Show your passion for both the business and the role you’re applying for, as, above all, this is the most important thing you can bring to an interview.

What would you say to a graduate who is nervous about the value they can bring to their role, being straight out of university?

Do not worry! It is a phase that everyone will go through. There is really nothing to be nervous about,  especially at Standard Chartered, as everyone is patient and supportive when you first join the company. If there is anything that troubles you, never be afraid to speak up and consult others.
